Empowering Growth: Nico Lafakis on Transforming HubSpot Through Automation and AI In our latest Let's Build Profoundly episode, we connected with...
In our continuing series introducing the founding Profoundly Pros who are shaping the future of the HubSpot ecosystem, we spent time with Bill Barlas, founder of Quick2Bid. His journey from metallurgy to HubSpot integration development offers a unique perspective on how expertise naturally evolves to meet emerging ecosystem needs.
The conversation revealed how Bill's background in materials engineering and deep understanding of manufacturing processes enables him to bridge critical gaps between HubSpot's front-office capabilities and the complex back-office systems that power growing businesses. His insights come at a pivotal moment as HubSpot's platform evolution creates new opportunities for meaningful integration.
Bill's path to HubSpot expertise began from an unexpected direction: "I have an undergraduate degree in metallurgy, materials engineering, and solid state chemistry," he shared. After discovering he was "horrible at lab work," Bill found his true calling in the ability to use technology to solve complex business problems.
This natural problem-solving instinct led him through various technical roles over the past decade, starting with VBA and spreadsheet tools before graduating to enterprise software projects. His entry into the HubSpot ecosystem two years ago coincided with massive platform evolution: "To talk about what HubSpot was then versus what it is now is so radically different. So many things have happened."
While Bill's technical expertise is evident, his most powerful insight may be about the human element of integration work: "The rate of change of a person using software is dramatically slower than the rate that you can go in terms of changing the software," he observed. This understanding shapes his approach to building solutions that drive real adoption and value.
Drawing on his manufacturing experience, Bill highlighted a critical challenge facing the ecosystem: "A lot of the reason why complexity is there is because there are rules and things that happen once you get into the back office that are a lot more difficult to manage." His work focuses on enabling this complexity while maintaining HubSpot's signature ease of use.
When asked about building in the HubSpot ecosystem today, Bill shared an energizing vision: "If you can think of it, you can technically build it. This is how flexible HubSpot can be with development." He sees particular opportunity in solving specific, deep problems rather than building horizontal solutions: "You have to go deep. How do we better customize, adapt, enrich HubSpot for a specific use case?"
Bill's current focus reflects where he sees the ecosystem heading: creating seamless connections between HubSpot and critical business systems while maintaining the platform's signature user experience. His vision includes making complex processes more approachable through innovative interfaces, including a chat-based quoting system that would allow users to naturally interact with their sales data.
This forward-thinking approach will be on full display during the March 6th Profoundly Kickoff Event, where Bill is leading the Integration Development track. Sessions will cover both practical implementation examples and strategic approaches to larger integration challenges, maintaining his commitment to making complex topics accessible while delivering real value.

Tomorrow, we'll continue our journey with another expert who's shaping the future of the HubSpot ecosystem. The momentum is building - don't miss your chance to be part of this transformative moment.
